Well y’all, no matter where you live there are things that need to be done. Even on the Oregon Coast I have to clean the cat’s litter box, on Wednesday nights I have to take the garbage to the curb, and once a week, to keep Norbert happy
I have to make fresh hummingbird food.
And, to eat regularly, we have to go grocery shopping….
For us, even though there are some stores in Lincoln City, Michelle and I prefect to hit up Fred Meyer 25 miles south in Newport.
Normally we go together. However, this weekend one of her best friends is in town, so while they went out to lunch, I made the trip on my own.
Funny thing when it is me by myself. When I drive the coast, I treat it just like a bike ride. So if and when I see something worth stopping for, I do. This happened as I headed through Depoe Bay.
As I hit the center of Depoe Bay and saw the waves, I had to pull over and take this.
The sky was blue, and the waves were pounding
And if I had the time I woulda stayed MUCH longer!
South of Depoe is Cape Foulweather. Truth be told on most grocery shopping trips I just drive over the top and keep going. But, since it was just me, and Depoe was so cool, I decided to stop. DAMN glad I did.
Funny thing is all of these were taken from the same place at the same time. But the clouds sun and fog make them all unique.
It may seem cliché, but truly, living here has changed my perspective on the day-to-day. When you live on the ocean, no matter what you are doing, it’s important to just be in the moment. Walking, cycling or driving, look around you, see what is there, and just take it in. Who the hell cares if slows you down a bit. I live on the Oregon Coast, and I can damn well give up a few minutes to appreciate the nature around me.
Now the rest of the shopping trip was uneventful. But latter, Michelle’s navigationally challenged friend needed to be escorted to her hotel. Once again, instead of heading straight home, I got delayed by a sight to see.
If I woulda had the beach walking shoes I might still be there!
Folks, the rat race sucks ass. We ALL get pulled into it. But we can start escaping the web of misery by enjoying the beauty around us. No matter were you are, there are sunrises or sunsets, cool clouds or eagles, trees, waves or parks. Just pull over, take a breath, and enjoy. Do NOT call anyone, but feel free to use that phone take photos. Let the goodness of the world take away some stress and you will start to enjoy life.
Like the wind!
