You know, I have heard people, hell, even people I know well, go on vacations that do NOT involves participation in athletic events. Let alone athletic events that people shake their head at. These are people who do not travel hundreds of miles just to be able to ride 100 miles on a bike, or 13.1 miles by foot. Nay, I have been told that not everyone does a century ride or a half marathon before relaxing for a week.
Ladies and gents, I do my best. But lord knows, NO husband is perfect. Being guys, we are adept at saying, wearing or doing the wrong thing at a moments notice. Case in point, the time I wore cargo shorts, a tshirt and a Cougar Baseball cap to a pretty high classed wine tasting thing at the Barking Frog. When we were almost there, I noticed Michelle had dressed up. I checked out my shorts, sandals and tshirt and asked “Should I have put on something nice for this?” She just patted my arm and smiled.
In fact, today, our friend Mary told her she was a saint and would go straight to heaven as my wife. Lord knows it aint easy!
OK, I will admit, there was a time, not all that long ago, where one of my mantras was “Sleep is overrated!” Followed quickly by, “I will sleep when I am dead!”
Nowadays, I truly love my sleep. The alarm goes off and I growl. I would much rather roll back over, snug back up with Michelle and close my eyes again. Needless to say, I know get a LOT more sleep than I used to. That is, until these last couple days… Continue reading “Damn I am tired”→
I was chatting with a blogger friend today after my last blog post. In it I had mentioned the long ago jerk who told a relatively new cyclist (me) “Well until you do the RAMROD, you aren’t a real cyclist.” Now normally, I brush off comments from people without a second thought. For some reason, probably because I REALLY disliked this guy, it stuck in my craw. Having completed the RAMROD this year I finally have the monkey off my back!
My blogger buddy Ron, of the Sevencyclist’s Blog, put it in perspective when he said. “it’s kind of a elitist type of comment. It’s all about enjoying the ride … The important thing is to get out there.”
Ladies and Gents, as much as this blog is about me most of the time, the best posts are when it’s about others. Especially when it’s about Michelle, who pushed me to start this thing.
