After my big ride near St Helens on Saturday, it was time for the drive back. It was important to get home Saturday night as Michelle and her best friend Kim (the two sexiest bike sherpas ever)
Were going to walk the Seattle Rock and Roll marathon the next morning. I was going to be able repay them (a little) for all they did on the Oregon Coast for me last year! Little did I know how much of a workout I was in for… Continue reading “Really hadn’t planned on doing a 10 K that day!”
So, over the course of a year, Michelle and I sign up for different events. 5 Kilometers runs, half marathons and century bike rides. Anyone who follows this blog knows we like to keep active.
Now somewhere in our events we saw a sign for the LardButt 1 K! A one kilometer (.62 mile) walk and/or run in which they place doughnut stops every 250 meters.
OK how could we NOT sign up???…. Continue reading “LardButt 1K or Run for the Doughnuts!”
You know, I have heard people, hell, even people I know well, go on vacations that do NOT involves participation in athletic events. Let alone athletic events that people shake their head at. These are people who do not travel hundreds of miles just to be able to ride 100 miles on a bike, or 13.1 miles by foot. Nay, I have been told that not everyone does a century ride or a half marathon before relaxing for a week.
These people of whom they speak are NOT Valente’s! We earn our vacations I say! And this time it was Michelle who did so in Corvallis! Continue reading “Corvallis Half Marathon part II”
February and early March have been rough around here weather wise. I know, I know, per the calendar, it is still winter. But normally by now there are some hints that spring is coming.
This year, though, winter has been digging in its heels and NOT letting go. As shown here last Monday after Thunder Snow (A snow laden thunderstorm) hit.
This can make it hard to work out…. Continue reading “We grow’s them TUFF up here!”
Ladies and gents, I do my best. But lord knows, NO husband is perfect. Being guys, we are adept at saying, wearing or doing the wrong thing at a moments notice. Case in point, the time I wore cargo shorts, a tshirt and a Cougar Baseball cap to a pretty high classed wine tasting thing at the Barking Frog. When we were almost there, I noticed Michelle had dressed up. I checked out my shorts, sandals and tshirt and asked “Should I have put on something nice for this?” She just patted my arm and smiled.
In fact, today, our friend Mary told her she was a saint and would go straight to heaven as my wife. Lord knows it aint easy!
Sometimes though, I make up for it! Continue reading “Sometimes the Hubby has a Good Idea”
Anyone who has been following me for the last week knows that during the ride on the Oregon coast, we had the best support crew ever! Michelle and Kim took very good care of us!
On Sunday, it was time for Rob and I to give back! Continue reading “Our turn to be support crew!”
Over the years, people ask me how I make myself work out. I am by NO means a gym rat. I honestly hate working out inside.
So, for years, I have done everything I could to workout in the great outside. To inspire myself, I sign up for a big event, pay for it, and then train to make sure I have at least a shot to complete it…. Continue reading “When you pushed yourself a bit too far”
OK, I will admit, there was a time, not all that long ago, where one of my mantras was “Sleep is overrated!” Followed quickly by, “I will sleep when I am dead!”
Nowadays, I truly love my sleep. The alarm goes off and I growl. I would much rather roll back over, snug back up with Michelle and close my eyes again. Needless to say, I know get a LOT more sleep than I used to. That is, until these last couple days… Continue reading “Damn I am tired”
I was chatting with a blogger friend today after my last blog post. In it I had mentioned the long ago jerk who told a relatively new cyclist (me) “Well until you do the RAMROD, you aren’t a real cyclist.” Now normally, I brush off comments from people without a second thought. For some reason, probably because I REALLY disliked this guy, it stuck in my craw. Having completed the RAMROD this year I finally have the monkey off my back!
My blogger buddy Ron, of the Sevencyclist’s Blog, put it in perspective when he said. “it’s kind of a elitist type of comment. It’s all about enjoying the ride … The important thing is to get out there.”
And that is how a blog post is born! Continue reading “It’s all about enjoying the ride”
Ladies and Gents, as much as this blog is about me most of the time, the best posts are when it’s about others. Especially when it’s about Michelle, who pushed me to start this thing. Today’s post is ALL about her, and her friend Kim, as yesterday was their second running of the Portland Halfmarathon. Continue reading “Its a win in my books!”
