Long ago, 6 years now, I came back to the Mighty P after being laid off. Because I was gone 3 years, I had to start over with accruing vacation time. Meanwhile, Michelle, who has been there 25+ years, earns more than a day every pay period.
Then, with the new job I have, it has been hard to take more than just a long weekend together. Last month, we finally made it happen. We took our first week off together in almost a year. Destination: Wine country in California!
Yep, I know, normally I am SO much better at blogging the vacations… But here we go!
I had never been to Texas until last week. I’ve seen it on TV, read about it in books, and met people who are from there, but I had not spent any time there. In fact, I’ve been wracking my brain, but I don’t know for sure if I had ever even caught a connecting flight there.
It’s funny how a simple comment or question can cause you to look at things in a different way. Now don’t worry, I am not going to get all profound and do deep dive into symbolism. I am still scarred by a 9th grade English teacher after he made us read “The Old Man and the Sea” when it comes to symbolism!
As much as we all love a good vacation, we look forward to it, plan it, and love when it happens, all too soon the day comes when you have to go home. You KNOW it’s a good vacation when you start thinking, I wonder if I could wrangle just one more day….
So there I was last night, fast asleep. And when I snooze, I snooze HARD! However, along about 11:30 my eyes snapped open. Outside the wind was howling, the waves were crashing and a storm was raging. The hotel we are in keeps flood lights on so you can always see the waves.
I laid in bed for a bit and saw that the wind was blowing so hard, that sand was blowing higher than our room past our balcony. We are on the second floor. I jumped out of bed, and went on the deck in just my underwear (OK, TMI, but I did) and saw the ocean was roiling! I dove back into bed to warm up and I was back asleep… Continue reading “The perfect day to hang out in the room!”→
Michelle and I have talked a time or two about this trip. Had we ended up at San Francisco and Napa as planned, it would have been MUCH less relaxing. There are so many things to see, that I would have been setting an alarm and it woulda been GO GO GO the entire time. In fact, Michelle told me she had scheduled a rest day in the vacation on Friday as she knew I would be on the move.
Long time followers of the Mountainstroh blog may remember the Plan C vacation of a few years ago. Michelle and I woke up on a Saturday in the Washington, the state, planning to go to bed in Washington the DC.
That night, due to storms, a small fire, and cancelled flights, we ended up at the Oregon coast. I still have never gotten to DC, but that was a great vacation!
