Hi yall! Here we are week 4 of shelter in place. First and most importantly, Michelle and I are happy and healthy. We are also still working full time. Hope this finds you all healthy as well!
One of the things I first learned about being a blogger is that it is not always easy to come up with ideas for a post. I learned early on we bloggers steal from others, and we are stolen from. I look at it as helping each other!
I tell you this because I stole this idea. I had Beth from Fit Ambitious Blonde read and comment on a post of mine. When that happens I always go out to their page to do the same.
She did a post listing how she is coping with the Covid shelter in place A – Z with something on every letter. I liked it!
Its a way to think of the positives during stressful times, so I decided to do the same!
Here is Tony’s Pandemic Survival List!

So the one thing I did not mention in the last post was that Michelle and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday. 10 years and we still love and LIKE each other!
Who knew we’d be in the middle of a global pandemic and told to shelter in place!
Before I share what we did, I think I better explain why I am worried about our 20th…. Continue reading “Our 10th anniversary!”
When I first started riding, it was all about the miles. I was new to the bike, a young strapping 44 and finally found a sport I was good at. I could climb any hill, cycle all day long, and seemed never to get tired. I was the wind.
Fast forward 11 years. NOT so strapping, sure as hell ain’t 44, but I can still climb anything you throw at me. I don’t go as far, but for good reason.
I am now the Oregon coast cyclist, I stop for amazing views, whales spouting and, as you can see here, to watch a bald eagle soar. I keep track of the miles, but now I ride for the experience, for the memories, for the life around me.
I am still good at what I do, and will keep doing it till the legs wear out. The bike is and always will be a time machine, making me feel younger and stronger than I truly am.
In my heart I truly hope that sometimes the eagle stops to watch me as I conquer a vicious headwind or make it over a steep climb. Maybe, just maybe, he smiles at me, as I do him when he soars.
The eagle and I are kindred spirits. Riding the winds, seeing the world and living the life. It is good to be free!
Forgive any typos. I am doing this from the hip and using the iPad.
The workday started today before the sun came up. It was a Monday and I hit the floor running, it went non-stop, and with very few breaks, I looked at the clock and realized it was 10 minutes till quitting time.
There was more to do, but I was done.
I ran a few errands but then it was time for beach walk. Work pays the bills, provides health care, and keeps a roof over your head. But it is NOT life. The walk on the beach tonight is a reminder of what life really is!
Yeah yeah yeah, I know. Every stinking TV show, radio program, podcast and blogger does a “looking back post.” So here I am doing the same. But ya know, honestly 2018 has been a year of change, AND the blogger mafia threatened to take away my website if I didn’t do it, so, here we go, 2018…

In my last post, I did a book review on A tale for the Time Being. While reading the book, the 15-year-old, Nao, told us she had a blog going for a while. But then one day she took a look at her stats and realized she had only had a handful of people visit, no one ever commented and, when she stopped, not a soul noticed.
She essentially said that bloggers are quite full of self-importance thinking people care about what they say, and for the most part, they are wasting their time writing posts, as no one cares what they think.
I read that section a couple of times, and knew someday I would revisit it for a post of my own, little did I know it would be so soon… Continue reading “Why take the time to blog”
Ever wonder how many bloggers there are out in the universe we call the interwebs? I generally don’t think much about it until a day like today. As I busted out the MacBook for my eclipse day post, it hit me that there are probably millions, hell tens of millions other bloggers doing the same thing.
Some might think, “Eh, why bother” after that thought. But hell, its by blog, my eclipse day, so why not? Here it is… Continue reading “Hanging together during the eclipse”
Well it hit me today, I have been a bit remiss. Last month, in the post His Heart Grew 3 Sizes that day I told you the story of Michelle finding a tag on our offices giving tree from a 17-year-old boy. All he asked for was a bike…
Michelle launched our personal fundraising plan that day by hitting up people we knew at work. I in turn hit Facebook as well as all the riders I knew here. The first day we had $300 in pledges.
I am remiss because I never told yall what happened! Continue reading “So? What happened?”
So what happens when it is halfway through the month of December and our hero Mountainstroh has a total of 10 (nope not a typo, ten) bike miles so far? Well for one, he starts wondering just how many layers he will need to ride in 30 degree weather, and for two, the blog needs other inspiration to keep it from dying an early death. Tonight I stumbled on a bit of a spark. Continue reading “Its been a long haul”
Some people REALLY love Christmas! Both my lovely wife and my great mom are two of these people! Christmas music can be played any time you want, going to the Christmas store in Cannon Beach during the summer is perfectly ok, and “Yes, you bet your ass there REALLY is a Santa Claus!” (Mom says: People who don’t believe in him only get underwear for Christmas! )
In the past, I have been much more of a Bah Humbugger! I don’t want any decorations in the stores till after Thanksgiving, and I hold off on Christmas tunes until December. Michelle has been great in making me like the holidays again, but its taken a while.
Today was different…. Continue reading “His Heart Grew 3 Sizes that Day”
