I am known for many things:
- Riding long distances on a bike
- Making people laugh
- McGyvering things to make it work (whatever IT is)
- Sipping wine
- And being able to drink a beer while standing on my head (I can still do it!)
I am not known for deep contemplative thoughts….
This morning I may have had one! I may have hurt myself a bit, as I had a headache for most of the day…. Continue reading “Just a thought….”
What’s that? Tony has a blog post that doesn’t have a bike?? What is this world coming to?!? But yes it is true, it has been a week, but during this week there has only been 2 days on the bike.
Don’t you worry though, I sure as hell got my exercise! Continue reading “Fun time without the bike!”
Sometimes, and I hate when it happens, I remember that I am 52 years old. Quite often it happens when I look in the mirror and I am surprised at the old fart looking back at me. Now, compared to most people my age, I am in pretty damn good shape. Shoot, it was only about 5 months ago Rob and I rode across an entire state!
So maybe I am NOT old!! But wait, last month I had to have a colonoscopy, that’s a sure sign that I AM old… (No issues by the way, healthy as a horse!)
So as you can see, there are times I argue with myself on just whether or not I am old. I do have to admit, though, there are some advantages to being in my 6th decade (UGH OLD AGAIN!)… Continue reading “The stuff we do”
Wednesday afternoon Michelle encouraged me to take off after work and do a longer ride. We’ve been having rain showers and cloudy weather for the last couple of weeks, and weekends have been busy, so my afternoon/evening rides are the only thing that allows me to rack up the miles for the months.
I decided to ride into Seattle, and then out to Woodinville and back. The hope was 50 miles or so, I was right on track, when at mile 47, I heard “PING!!!” Yep sure as hell, I broke a spoke on the front wheel!!
At first I was mad…. Continue reading “PING!!!!”
Somewhere close to 23 years ago I became a dad for the first time. As with all dads, I lamented that there was not an instruction manual, took 5 minute power naps in the car before driving home from work, and discovered that not covering the nether regions of a boy while changing a diaper could result in both of us needing a shower!
Unlike other dads (I am assuming here) I found the infant stage boring (they are essentially paperweights and don’t do much) and I though Father’s Day was silly. Most years, this one included, people had to remind me it was coming…. Continue reading “A very cool Father’s day!”
I have mentioned quite a few times in my blog that I have been an avid reader since my dad handed me my first Louis L’Amour book back in the 4th grade. To be honest, I also remember reading “Billy and Blaze” books at even a younger age. (and yes, I am old enough to have really learned to read with Dick, Jane, AND Spot…
My normal go to genre is Science Fiction/Fantasy, which I know with shock those that know me in real life. But, I will change with whatever strikes my fancy. I recently read a book about Thomas Jefferson and early America’s war against the Barbary pirates. I learned a lot, and thank my buddy Stu for the loan.
So it should come as no surprise that I am currently reading “The Big Burn” by Timothy Egan. All about the history of the Forestry Service and the biggest forest fire ever, an excellent book so far!
What did surprise me today, though, was sitting up straight after reading a quote from Teddy Roosevelt, one of the key characters of this book…

Yep, it is official, the Seattle area has had its wettest winter ever! I know, I know, those who do not live in the Northwest might be amazed. As far as the rest of the country is concerned, every day in Seattle, year round, looks like this.
And I won’t lie. with these stats from the Tacoma News Tribune
The National Weather Service said 22.78 inches of rain have fallen at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport since Dec. 1. That beats the previous record of 22.77 inches, set in the winter of 1998 to 1999.
We have had many days which look just like this picute. but that is only half the story…. Continue reading “Wettest Winter Ever”
