Cycling the Yaquina River

Everyone knows how much I love cycling along the Oregon coast. The majority of my miles this year have been between my house in Lincoln City, and Newport. Its a 25 miles stretch of road, much of it with views like this! Oh and yes there is a whale spouting!

I tell people all the time that I ride this route every chance I get, and I never get tired of it. There is ALWAYS something that makes the ride worthwhile.

There are times I want something different. Like today, since I was watching the Seahawks in the morning, I wasn’t able to ride until the afternoon. I try too avoid HWY 101 on Friday’s after work and Sunday afternoons. There are just to many people driving big ole Winnebagoes they aren’t used to.

So today I decided to ride the Yaquina River. Continue reading “Cycling the Yaquina River”

Here use my spare….

Michelle and I LOVE where we live now. We’ve left the hustle and bustle (and lately, per the news, a plethora of overturned semis on the freeway) of the Seattle area and moved to the small town of Lincoln City Oregon, Population just under 8000 people.

Michelle was pretty picky about the town we chose. It had to be small, on the ocean, but large enough for high-speed interwebs (needed for working from home) a hospital (needed if I ever do something stupid) and nice people. Lincoln City won!

Just last week, though, we were talking that a small town like this would be MUCH harder if it weren’t for Amazon Prime. The nearest Target is over an hour away. And I have let the Costco membership lapse as it is even farther. Luckily you can get ANYTHING at Amazon…

Well this last week, I have learned yet another challenge and benefit of being here. And both revolve around the bike! Continue reading “Here use my spare….”

Riding the birthday years

Funny thing about us cyclists. We do our best to come up with reasons to ride. Just for the bragging rights and a patch, we will ride 200+ miles from Seattle to Portland in a day.

Or 150 miles and 10000 feet of climbing on a hot summer day.

But there doesn’t need to be a patch. Somewhere along the way some cyclist came up with the birthday years ride… Continue reading “Riding the birthday years”

Never get tired of coast nature

Here it is, almost the end of June, and we are approaching the 3rd month here on the coast. And after three months, we are VERY much still enjoying life here. The pace is slower, working from home there is no commute and I am still discovering new things on a regular basis.

I love walking the beach, riding the coast, and just experiencing the feel of world around us. This last week, though, nature put on a serious show just for my benefit…

Just a warning for the squeamish, there are some ‘circle of life’ photos attached…

Wait! I know a way!!

If you have been reading the blog for the last couple of months, you know that I am very happy being a coast kid! Living in Lincoln City Oregon is just a great place to be. Where else can I ride my bike to a lighthouse, and then sit and watch whales…

Not once in the last two months have I regretted moving. However, living in a small town on the coast does have its occasional challenges… Continue reading “Wait! I know a way!!”

The Sun came out!

It’s Memorial Day weekend! For most people, in the USA, even though the calendar says differently, this 3-day weekend is the true start of summer.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, historically, this weekend doesn’t always ooze summer. Quite often, it can be a VERY wet weekend indeed. Especially at the ocean.

Therefore, when I woke up today, fully intending to crank out some miles on the bike, I was VERY pleasantly surprised to see blue sky and sun! With this kind of weather, how could it NOT be a great ride… Continue reading “The Sun came out!”

Hey I traveled north!!!

Well, on the last couple posts, the world now knows we have moved to the Oregon Coast. We have been unpacking, setting stuff up, hanging up photos, eating good food and yep, walking on the beach!

What hadn’t happened yet, was a bike ride.

Today that changed!  Continue reading “Hey I traveled north!!!”
