I can see we sometimes get a bad name!

Today was a different day for me.  Instead of riding the bike, I told Michelle (who had to put up with my long bikes rides every weekend leading up to the STP) that today I’d walk with her instead.

She is in training to walk the Portland half marathon in October with her best friend Kim.  So on tap today was a 6 – 8 mile walk along the Burke Gilman trail.  One of our friends joined us as well, and we headed out at 8 AM. Continue reading “I can see we sometimes get a bad name!”

Jingling through town

Y’all have heard me talk about it quite a bit over the last fees weeks and months, well today was finally the day.  The Arthritis Foundation‘s Seattle Jingle Run and Walk!  As usual, the main topic of conversation leading up to today was the weather.  December is NOT our best weather month of the year.  In the past, we have had monsoon rains, snow, wind, and anything else you can think of.

This year was cold!  Here in Seattle, we usually end up in the 40’s at night and maybe 50 during the day.  Then, in a cold snap, we’ll get down to the lower 30s or even (GASP!) upper 20s at night, and get to the 40s in the day.

This week we have been in the teens!  It NEVER gets that cold here.  I even stopped wearing sandals to Starbucks a day or two.  It was that cold.  Last night was no different.  In fact, some places hit single digits.  UGH.  Time to break out the layers.

Michelle and I had a helluva time waking up, but we sucked it up and headed and got our of bed!

Herding Cats!

You know, there are some things that you just don’t understand until you end up in the right place at the right time.  Or is it the wrong place at the right time?

What I am talking about is all the effort that goes into an organized event.  I have been doing Runs/Walks/Stair climbs/Bike rides for over a decade.  For me its been easy.  I sign up on-line, (OK I admit my first was a mail in app from the newspaper, with a check (yep old school)) usually have my number mailed to me. I show up early, complete the event, and only then, do I put on the souvenir t-shirt.

I try to park far away, which makes getting home easier.  Yep for me its been easy….

Then I met these people

This is the Seattle Jingle Bell Run/Walk committee, and the event is Sunday… Continue reading “Herding Cats!”
